Becoming a father showed me how many things I wasn't prepared for. One of them never left the back of my mind: how do I protect my kids in an internet age I understand better than most, and still can't fully control?
The question that started it
Being the tech guy in the family, that one was mine to answer. SafetyKit is the answer I could stand behind: the checks a security professional runs, explained in plain English, with the next step attached.
My story
Nobody hands you a manual. The sleep, of course. But also the quieter part: every decision now has a small person on the other end of it. Most of that you learn by doing, and you are allowed to get it wrong.
How do I protect them online? Not in theory. Which apps, which settings, which link, which stranger in which game. I'm the tech guy in my family; when something online feels off, I'm the one who gets the text. I did not want to be the one who dropped the ball on my own kids.
I hold a master's degree in cybersecurity. I spent years learning how people get compromised and how to find out whether they have been. Almost everything a parent needs to know is already public; security professionals check the same sources every day. Parents never get to, because every tool assumes you already speak the language. I decided this app needed to exist, and that a dad with the training should be the one to build it.

These are the questions I kept asking myself. Each one is a check in the app, answered from public sources, with the sources shown so you can verify it yourself.
See which checks are free“Is this link my kid just got actually safe?”
Link check. Paste a link your child received and find out if it looks like a scam, a fake login page, or a site known for spreading viruses.
“Which apps is my child really on?”
Username check. See which apps and sites your child's username shows up on, so you know where they have accounts you may not have heard about.
“Has their email or password leaked somewhere?”
Email leak check. Find out if your child's email address has been leaked in a hack, which usually means the password on that account should be changed.
“Who is the number that keeps texting?”
Phone number check. See where an unknown number that's been texting or calling your child actually comes from, and whether it's the kind of internet number scammers use.
“Can strangers see our baby monitor?”
Home network check. See your home's internet connection the way a stranger sees it: are any cameras, baby monitors, smart devices or your router's login page reachable from outside?
“Is this app okay for a nine-year-old?”
App check. Type the name of an app your child wants and get Apple's age rating, what kind of content it contains, and whether strangers can message them inside it.
What I want it to do for you
Every answer says how serious it is, the one thing to do first, and where it happens: on the iPad, inside Roblox, in the router app, or in a conversation with your child.
SafetyKit uses information that is already public plus what you tell it. It never reads messages or tracks a location, and it will say when the right next step is a talk, not another check.
Tell it who is in the house and what they use, and it gives you a short list for today, a score that rises as you finish it, and 31 step-by-step walkthroughs for the situations parents actually face.
It shows its sources, tells you when it could not check something, and points you to NCMEC, Take It Down or the police when a situation is beyond an app.
Straight answers
SafetyKit launched in September 2026. There are no glossy customer quotes here because there are no customers yet, and I would rather tell you that than invent some. I am looking for the first 100 parents to use it, tell me where it falls short, and shape what gets built next.
Founding parents get a direct line to me and a say in the roadmap.
The free plan is real and stays free: 10 questions and 5 check credits a month for one child, 15 of the 18 checks, and every walkthrough to read. Plus and Family are paid so the business never has to sell data or show ads.
There is a 7-day free trial on both, and you cancel through Apple or Google, not through me.
